Case Description
Last Sept. I noticed I had more space between my front 2 teeth-space that was not formerly there. Approx. 3 weeks ago I bit into a chip and it impaled behind my right front tooth and really traumatized the gum tissue. as of last week I have a clear GAP between my teeth. I have been experiencing a great deal of pain from what I thought was the tortilla chip incedentbut yesterday noticed something strange between these teeth at the gumlinethis morning I awakened w/an ever-growing pus pocket. I was told by a lo-cost community dental clinic that he would not lance the pus and RX antibiotics-that I need a root canal and subsequent crown? PLEASE HELP it's Saturday and I am scared to death if I wait until Monday to contact a dentist whom I've seen before and performed the root canal and crown on my other front tooth that this abcess will take a serious turn and I do not want to end up in the emergency room-or dead! I work in medical communications and know how serious this can be-especially @ the rate of current progression. Can I lance this myself before Mon. to alleviate the pain and pressure-my mother is an RN and would be on hand.

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

You may lance the pus pocket yourself which will alleviate alot of the pressure and pain. Sometimes the abcess will rupture by itself depending upon the situation. Continue taking the antibiotic, but understand the infection will still be there because the nerve of the tooth is dead and rotting. Only pulling the tooth or having a root canal will treat the problem. DR. JN
