Case Description
One of my wisdom teeth or back molars is broken and has a cavity. Other than some minor discomfort from it jabbing my inner cheek it doesnt really hurt. But when I stick my finger back there and mess with it and pull my finger out it smells putrid. I dont currently have dental insurance so there isnt much I can do right now but I was wondering what this stench migh tbe and if its serious or common? Thanks in advance.

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

When you have a broken tooth and it smells, it tells me that the tooth has been broken for a long period of time and has decay or otherwise a cavity. Bacteria is attacking the tooth and breaking it down and produces gases which smells. My advise is if its a broken down wisdom tooth, get it pulled. And if its another molar, get a filling unless it requires a root canal. Either way, take care of the problem before a toothache arises.

I could give you a much better idea of what is happening with your teeth if you would schedule exam in my office .The best I can tell you without looking at you or looking at an x-ray is the following. If a tooth has broken in your mouth it is a serious issue. If it is not hurting now you are lucky and it soon will be due to the decay that will start to destroy the tooth. The bad smell is probably due to the decay of the tooth.Left untreated this decay can turn into a infection that can be very painful if an abcess forms. My suggestion would be call 214 215 4346 and schedule a COMPLIMENTARY 15 minute consult and I will look at your tooth and give you your options, time frame and cost of taking care of your problem.Dr.Hucklebridge
